The Tower Bridge, if one gets into deeper archives doesn’t get its name after its two impressive towers, but after the Tower of London which resides on its side. The Tower Bridge has become one of London's best known landmarks. This Bridge made in Victorian style is now more than 100 years old.
This comes as a surprise to most of the visitors that this bridge is not one which is linked with the ancient history dating back to the times of castles and battles but this was designed by Wolfe Barry and Horace Jones, and completed in 1894.
The most impressive aspect of this bridge is that the middle of the bridge can be raised to permit large vessels to pass under the Tower Bridge. It used to be raised about 6000 times in the initial years, but now it is only raised once a day.
The bridge sitting at 60 meters (197 ft) long across the river Thames and rising to a height of 43 meters makes it one of the post picturesque locations of London. From the top of the two towers, visitors get a great view on the center of London.
Through special permissions everyday one can also visit the inside of the tower, where one can observe the original mechanism which is used to raise the bridge.
